Like a House on Fire.

Getting on like a house on fire, that was never doused by emergency services,

firemen stand by and watch the flames lick each other, the smoke filled sky and the smouldering crevices,

like the screams inside our love is loud and our bond is melted nylon on blistering skin,

getting on like a house in flames, not a hero in sight, no chance of rescue, I’m always here, I’ll always be with you.

The scene was bloody, a heinous act of violence had been committed upon the innocent, there was barely a heart beat in the whole street.

Listening closely, a crackle of breath behind crushed lungs can be heard. The last breaths that come from the survivor push oxygen desperately around the body, a hand moves, an arm twitches and raises its self into the air clutching a phone with the last of its strength.

The user switches to the front facing camera, takes a selfie and dies, the phone falls to the ground as sirens fill the air.

Like a Tailored Tuxedo.

Misery fits me like a tailored tuxedo, made of sandpaper, I’m a chafing zero,

numbers just remind me of maths lessons that I day dreamed in, and the money that I never win,

placing bets when I know lady luck committed suicide years ago, she found out that house always wins, the truth hurts when the roulette wheel spins,

red black red black red, seven twenty six thirty four, bailiffs knock at your front door every morning for a week, squatting behind the sofa anticipating an unfriendly game of hide and seek,

you can have everything I’ve got left, it’s a mess, a teacup and a pile of threatening debt recovery letters, shaped into an SOS.

Bad Things Happen to People.

Bad things happen to…people

Good or bad or right or wrong

old or young or weak or strong

Somewhere there’s someone

that doesn’t care that

Bad things happen to…people

A cute child gets aggressive brain cancer

The legs are shot off a wonderful dancer

Somewhere there’s someone

that doesn’t know that

Bad things happen to…people

If you happen to be one

Don’t sit and suck your thumb

Your liable to choke on it and die

Because bad things happen to…people

I’m one and you are too

So I suggest to you

That next time just don’t be surprised

That someone throws acid into your eyes

Or that your beloved aunt ups and dies

And all of your friends turn out to be spies

Cuz bad things happen to…people.

It’s a sad fact that karma I’m sad to say

Is as real as unicorns chomping on hay

Sometimes the bad guys they just get away and are happy

Bad things happen to…people

Misfortune doesn’t seem to discriminate

It greets those full of of love and those full of hate

And those who are both and neither

So long as you are a breather.

Because bad things happen to…people.
